Where Should I Rent a Photography Studio in Boston?

This might come as a surprise to some, but as a family and newborn photographer in the Boston area, I had never photographed a client in a studio until recently! I’ve been in business for 10 years now and have had countless people ask if I have a studio. Not only do I not have one, but I’ve never even rented one, eeeep! My goal for 2024, however, has been to photograph some novel things in new types of locations. Sooo, when a winter maternity client of mine suggested renting a studio for our session, I was totally down! She actually did the leg work herself and found a list on Peerspace. We talked about the options together and settled on this one. Here’s why!

A Bit of Backdrop Variety

I was smitten the moment I saw that blue wall with gold frames! It reminded me a bit of my own house (we have one dark blue wall with brass frames), but I also loved that it had exposed brick. It also seemed to really reflect my brand, which I’d describe as colorful but in more of a deep/rich toned type of way as opposed to bright and vibrant. Also, I saw a plant or two in the listing photos and I am a sucker for plants :). It turned out to have wayyyy more plants in real life, so that was an added bonus! Lastly, being in the South End of Boston, I knew it would likely have some decent outdoor backdrop options if we wanted to step outside for a few at the end.

Parking

This place came equipped with the easiest city parking I’ve ever encountered! Win win! There was a nice sized parking lot for visitors of the industrial art complex right in front of the building which offered complementary parking for up to two hours. There was also a GIANT public parking lot right across the street which was very reasonably priced. This was such a win for a Boston photo location!

Host Communication

I had a few questions before we officially went ahead and booked this studio for our maternity session, and the host was quick to reply. They were able to answer my questions about the natural light situation and direction of the windows, as well as parking and all other details that were critical in order for me to feel comfortable booking. Not to mention, the price was reasonable!

I had so much fun doing something new and different in this South End gem of a studio! It really fed my creativity and I would love to do more of these. If you’re interested in renting a studio for your next maternity, branding, newborn or maybe even a family session, please reach out!

WELCOME

Oh hey! I’m Melissa, a Boston family & newborn photographer, but I like to refer to myself as a toddler-whispering, child-taming, photographic ninja.
