When I first started my business, newborn photography wasn’t something I was particularly interested in, but somehow, the newborns kept finding their way to me. Over time, I learned that I didn’t HAVE to pose itty bitty babies perfectly or edit their skin to be porcelain doll perfect, but that I could in fact capture them in an authentic, stress-free way. This is what we refer to as “lifestyle newborn photography.” This means parents, siblings, and even pets are involved, and sessions may include some tears, diapers, and chaos amongst the quiet, sleepy moments.
As I started booking more and more of these sessions, I decided I really wanted to improve my craft, so I signed up for a newborn workshop lead by many of the industry’s leaders this past January. I learned a lot, and sweet baby Nicolas was the first newborn I photographed following the completion of the workshop. Needless to say, I think it was my best newborn session yet, and now I’m really looking forward to the many I have on my calendar next month!
