Boston Family Photography

So you’re contemplating family photos, but you’re unsure if now is the time. Maybe you want to lose 10 pounds first. Maybe you’re waiting for the kids to “behave” — (spoiler: that day is not coming). I’m here to tell you that there is no time like the present! Truly. My oldest is about to turn nine, and I cannot stop thinking about the fact that his childhood is already halfway over. HALFWAY. I am so, so grateful that we have tons of family photos that actually include me — not just my arms holding the camera — so I can look back and remember every chaotic, beautiful, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it phase of this wild parenthood journey.

What if my kids don’t behave for photos?
Fun fact! I’m also a full-time, public school elementary teacher and I have seen.it.all. I’ve got a whole slew of tricks in my back pocket and can bust out poop jokes like it’s my job (because it kind of is!). I also have two incredibly rambunctious boys at home, so I promise you’re in good hands with me and don’t need to worry. And to be honest, sometimes the most challenging kids to photograph are the ones that just sit and stare at the camera. Chaos is kind of my jam.

What time of day do you book sessions?
For outdoor sessions, I generally shoot at golden hour (60-90 minutes before sunset) so that we have soft, even light. This also makes it easier for *you* because when we have better light to work with all around, we can worry less about where kids are running! During the warmer months, however, it’s not uncommon for me to do early morning sessions for families with infants and young toddlers since sunset is a difficult time of day. If you choose to do an in-home session, we can be much more flexible with timing, and I often opt for late morning.

Where should we shoot?
I shoot at a variety of locations in the Greater Boston area, and generally shoot within 30 minutes of Waltham (I’ll occasionally travel further, especially during the summer months). I enjoy shooting in Boston proper (the Seaport and Beacon Hill are my favorite city spots!), but also love conservation land and fields outside of the city. I typically do not like to shoot sight unseen, but will occasionally do it if clients have a special location that is meaningful to their families. In the fall, I pre-select locations and stack sessions due to the high demand of that season. An in-home session is always an option, too, with the exception of September through November.

What should we wear?
Prior to your session, I’ll send you a blog post about the best colors to wear for the season you have scheduled your session. I also encourage all clients to send me photos of their clothing options so that we can collaborate and plan something perfect together!

What’s your turnaround time?
I deliver a small preview gallery to all of my clients within 3 days of their sessions (but usually within a day or two!). Finally galleries are generally delivered two weeks after, but contractually I do allow myself up to 4 , *just* in case. However, I’ve never needed a whole month in my 13 years in business.
