This in-home newborn session in Charlestown was a fun one! We took some pictures outside on the patio in addition to the standard indoor shots. I love getting newborns outside in the yard if the light allows for it. We actually started this session outside since it was overcast. I was afraid that if we waited, the sun would inevitably come out in full force.
When we brought baby Rowan back inside, we took her out of her swaddle (much to her dismay). If you took me out of my bed in the middle of a dead sleep, I’d probably be pretty peeved, too. It took some time to get her settled again, and I thought I’d talk about all my usual tricks today for any expecting parents who might be considering a newborn session.
If baby gets fussy during our session, I’ll suggest you take whatever time you need for feeding. Sometimes, it actually saves me time to have mom do a 15-minute feeding right off the bat. Feeding isn’t always the answer though, and if it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick, I’ll suggest turning on a baby shusher (this one from Amazon is awesome). I also am a big fan of the double swaddle! I bring a velcro sleep sack and I put that underneath, and then use a prettier swaddle over it. It works like a charm 90% of the time, and it was definitely the ticket to getting Rowan nice and sleepy again.
The moral of the story is, don’t panic if your little one is fussy during our time together! I’ve got a bag of tricks (and patience), and we’ll take all the time we need to capture baby perfectly <3.
